Under the Sea Bombshell Tutorial

Postby MrsETaylor on Sun May 23, 2010 3:01 pm

Hi Everyone. Hope you are all enjoying Spring. Last night my husband and i were chatting about my next Bombshell project over wine and I was STUCK!!! Mark gave me some serious inspiration to create a undersea treasure. For this project, I used the Homeward Bound stamp set to create something really Masculine. I hope you enjoy it

Step 1- Apply Black Gesso to wood piece very thick. To accomplish this, I dabbed it on rather than using paint strokes.

Step 2- Apply 3 colors of Perfect Pearls to wet Gesso.

Step 3- Use heat tool to dry entire piece. The Gesso will bubble and you want that to happen.

Step 4- Add coins to front of project. Adhere to project using Glossy Accents. While Glossy accents is still wet, add pearls into mix.

Step 5- Apply Black Gesso onto craft sheet and stamp Ship image into it. Then stamp onto white cardstock.

Step 6- Color in image using perfect pearls and perfect medium pens.

Step 7- Apply Glossy Accents to sails. Let dry. Once dry, cut out image.

Step 8- Emboss grungeboard key with iron colored or patina colored embossing powder

Step 9- Paint skull and crossbones grungeboard with Range paint daubers. I used Silver, Black and White. Then add small dusting of Perfect Pearls before dry.

Step 10- Start adding pieces to wood project using Glossy Accents. I used Glossy Accents for everything, because I wanted to have a wet look on parts of the design.

Step 11- Stamp compass and chains from Homeward Bound Stamp set. Emboss and cut out. Apply all pieces to wood surface using Glossy Accents.

I used a lot of components from the Gauche Alchemy Color Kits. I also used a Tim Holtz Fragment for on top of the compass.

Fantastic tutorial and great project. Thanks for sharing it!

I didn't know that you could use Perfect Pearls with Gesso. I'm gonna have to give that a go!
